Buddha
A statue depicting the Buddha. The back face shows horizontal tool marks.
The Buddha is sitting in padmāsana on a low seat. This latter has grass spread over it, and is decorated from bottom to top with half rosettes within filleted opposite triangles, a raw of saw teeth, and a projecting fillet. The same motifs are found on the sides of the seat.
The figure is in dhyānamudrā and is wrapped in the saṃghāti with covered feet. The overrobe falls onto the seat in dense rounded ridges and with the gathered edge spreading in pipe folds over the same. Straight paired ridges run on the legs. He has open eyes, a pointed nose, and a small mouth. The hair is rendered in vertical strands converging at the centre. The uṣṇīṣa is separated and tied by a double plain string at its base. The nimbus is plain.
