Bodhisattvas

A relief displaying four bodhisattvas. The base is plain. The cornice is projecting and originally decorated with a row of ogival upright leaf-and-dart between a fillet. A rectangular socket is carved in the bottom face. A circular hole for nail is drilled in the top centre of the figured field. The back shows vertical tool marks. The four bodhisattvas, all identical, are carved frontally in bust. They have globular eyes and wear a turban, earrings, and a long necklace – traces of which can be seen on the second and third figures. Their nimbus, incised into the field surface, is plain.
