Figures
Part of a cornice depicting a row of female busts. The back face shows vertical marks of a large chisel. Marks of a smaller tool cover the bottom. To the right of the top face there is a horizontal socket for cramp; in the centre there is a mason mark.
The sculpted register depicts two couples and one component of a third one. The figures are shown in half-bust, the figures on the left are probably female, they have globular earrings and a wreath on the head. They hold an object in their right hand, probably a lotus. Their partner is a male figure with a turban and globular earrings. They all wear draped garments.
The couples are separated by pilasters of Gandharan-Corinthian type with a flute on the shaft. The pilasters support an architrave that includes a plain fillet and a projecting row of upright ogival leaves.
