Palmettes, triratna, tree
Part of a figured cornice depicting four different motifs. The base consists of a plain fillet, the cornice is projecting and decorated with a row of bordered original leaf-and-dart. A rectangular tenon with a dovetail socket is carved on the bottom face. On both sides of the top face is a rectangular tenon, that on the proper right part is vertical, that on the proper right part is horizontal. Two Kharoshthi marks are carved on one side of the sockets. The top and bottom faces, including the tenon, shows tool marks of different width. The first motif is an open flame palmette with tuft. The second motif is a triratna consisting of a triśūla and a cakra separated by a plain intermediate element, all placed on a low plain base. The third motif is a tree with upward wavy branches standing on a low plain base. The fourth and last motif is a closed flame palmette. All the motifs are carved under a voluted carinated arch with joists and pendant elements, and are all separated by a semi-column of the Gandharan-Persepolitan type with small modillion. A similar dividing element, but framed, originally encased the figured field. The same is carved on both the right and left faces of the cornice.
