Buddha and devotees
Lower part of a simple false-niche depicting Buddha and devotees. There is a large tenon on the bottom. On the back there are deep parallel tool marks. The base is plain, the jambs are rebated. In the centre of the scene, Buddha sits on a low seat covered in grass in padmāsana and dhyānamudrā. To the right of his head is visible a branch of a tree. To each of his sides stands in three quarter profile a devotee with hands joined in a gesture of veneration. They are both clad in paridhāna and uttarīya. The one on the left also preserves a flat band necklace; the one on the right still has his head covered in a turban and wearing a large earring.
