Tritons

Part of a figured frieze with encased tritons. The base consists of a plain fillet, as well as the cornice. There are two rectangular tenons on the top, and a small socket at the right end of this same side. On the bottom there are also two rectangular tenons. There are large parallel tool marks on the back. The relief preserves four tritons separated by framed pilasters of Gandharan-Corinthian type with a long flute on the shaft. The tritons are represented frontal with two spiralled snake-tails. They are bearded and have short wavy hair. They wear a loincloth. The tritons are represented has musicians playing musical instruments. The first from the right holds small cymbals. The second and the last play a tambourine, the remaining one a double flute.
