Bodhisattva Maitreya with devotees
Part of a relief depicting the bodhisattva Maitreya with three devotees. The base is plain. The bottom face shows tool marks and the remains of a rectangular tenon on the proper left part. A circular nail hole is drilled between Maitreya and the second devotee from the right.
Maitreya is sitting in padmāsana on a throne with turned legs, a footstool and a drape showing a geometric motif on contiguous vertical bands. The bodhisattva is in abhayamudrā and holds a globular kamaṇḍalu in the left. He wears a paridhāna and an uttarīya exposing the torso and covering the left shoulder. Traces of a short necklace can be discernible.
The three devotees are all standing and turning towards him. Of the first, only the feet remain. The second one is shown frontally and with joined hands. He is dressed in a paridhāna and an uttarīya exposing the torso and covering the left shoulder, and is wearing bracelets. The third devotee, on Maitreya’s right, preserves the left foot.
