Last Existence: Siddhārtha in school

A fragment of a relief probably depicting Siddhārtha in school. Prince Siddhārtha is taken to school to be educated as befits his rank. He proves to be well-learned in all the sciences, including writing. The projecting base is plain. The back shows tool marks. Siddhārtha is sitting on a seat with turned legs and a canopy (?). He is holding a writing table placed on his legs. The bodhisattva originally wore a paridhāna and an uttarīya, of which only scanty traces remain. On the right is the lower part of a figure’s body. On the left, the feet of at least two figures can be seen.
