Buddha

Fragment of a relief showing the upper part of the Buddha’s body. The figure was sitting. He has open eyes with pupils in relief, a moustache, and hair with vertical strands converging at the centre. The uṣṇīṣa is separate and tied at its base by a string with a central stone. The nimbus displays a plain border. The left shoulder and part of the arm preserve remains of the overrobe, with folds rendered in dense ridges. Above the Buddha’s head, emerging from behind, are branches with lanceolate leaves, originally waving on both sides.
